Bella Umbrella Parasols

US company Bella Umbrella stock original vintage umbrellas and parasols. You can buy or hire parasols for weddings, fashion shoots etc. There's a huge range (the largest collection in the world) from plain to patterned, frilled and double-canopies. Founder, Jodell Egbert has even designed her own Signature Collection of 'new-vintage' umbrellas, priced around A$120. What a lovely idea. I wonder if they'll ship to Oz?

SMH - Vintage Hollywood tops bridal trends

According to today's article in the Sydney Morning Herald, Vintage Hollywood is the latest trend in bridal fashion. I thought I was being fairly unique.... :-(
Weather presenter Rose Kelly is wearing a 30's inspired gown (not sure who it's by, I got confused as to whether it's a Jenny Packham or Akira gown). They also make suggestions for jewellery, hair and make-up to get the old Hollywood look.

So Vintage Patterns

If you're handy with a needle and thread or employ a dressmaker, here's a website selling authentic patterns dating right back through the 20th century. The 40s, 50s and 60s gowns are really spectacular and some of them are very sexy. An era where women really dressed up!

Claire Pettibone

As you might have guessed by all these gowns, I haven't settled on a gown yet (despite what I said in an earlier post). I still love that gown but it may not be the right style for me. I will never know because I can't get my hands on a sample to try. Anyway, in my never-ending search I came across yet another fantastic US designer, Claire Pettibone. Her gowns are just so scrumptious. These two (Forever and Mystere) are from her Rock N Roll Bride 2009 collection.

Matthew Christopher Gowns

Matthew Christopher is a Manhattan designer. His gowns have the most amazing work and detail to them in a really beautiful way. Worth keeping this man bookmarked!

Is this THE ONE?

After deliberating the last few days, I think I have finally settled on a gown. It is one of the gowns on my shortlist. I have shown a picture of it to my two bridesmaids and a good friend and all three of them felt that it was a breathtakingly beautiful dress. This is good feedback since they are all different ages and have very different tastes. They are all brutally honest ladies too.

My next step now is to try on the dress to make sure I'm still happy to proceed. I got a quote from a bridal salon for $6,600 which is 3x more than my budget.... YIKES!! I can't post the dress here or give any more specific details in case anyone coming to the wedding or the groom is perusing this blog. Let's just say that it's awesome!!

Choosing a Gown

I'm going through the process of finding a gown. How do people know when they've found the one? Personally, I thought I found "the one" a few weeks ago online but then I found two more which I fell in love with yesterday. Now I have 3 on my shortlist...

I can't even try on any of these gowns to see whether I have "the moment" (the realisation that it's "the one"). No one in my city even has these gowns for me to try. Some people can't even find one dress they like... I have 3!!
