Almost A Year... so much has happened

It's now almost twelve months since our wedding day.  I neglected this blog for a number of reasons, mainly falling pregnant prior to the wedding and just general wedding chaos and looking after 2 toddlers..... Life was quite hectic those last few months.  Most notably my Dad passed away in January and I have been dealing with the loss as well as dealing with being a pregnant Mumma to two very busy boys.   My only saving grace was that Dad got to walk me down the aisle, I am very thankful that he was there for part of the wedding.  Unfortunately, he had been ill and was only allowed to leave hospital for a few hours.   I think it upset him that he missed the reception.  Here's to you Dad, I miss you.

AND, here's your precious granddaughter you didn't get to meet.  She was five months old yesterday, so nice for the boys to have a little sister.

Dearie Me's "Brittle Girl" video

My fiance, the budding rockstar, and his band The Dearie Me's have recently filmed a music video for their track "Brittle Girl". Click here to check out the video and see if you can spot him.

I was lucky enough to do make up for the shoot!

Techno-babble - LG Renoir Mobile Phone

After a lot of research into the current mobile phone market (Jack and I were completely OCD for about 2 weeks), we decided to get the LG Renoir mobile phone (free on the Virgin $29 cap). The bonus with this plan is you get free Virgin-to-Virgin calls and texts, so great for couples or families etc! It's a great touch phone if you can't afford the iPhone, it has an 8MP camera and after testing it out I'm pretty happy with the quality. The phone interface is pretty easy to use too and I think much better than Nokia or Sony phones.

Anyway for those not interested in all that techno-babble, just enjoy these cute pictures of our cheeky monkeys.

Bridesmaids Outfits - Done and Dusted!

On a very exciting note, we bought the bridesmaids outfits yesterday, now we have to find them some shoes (hoping to find something under $80).... BUT I'm really pleased with the outfits because they're the colour we wanted and are a gorgeous style, plus the girls will get some wear out of them because they are not typically "bridesmaidy" - they're from George Gross and we scored 50% off because they have new stock arriving in a couple of weeks. Not sure what we would've done if they were full price - probably thought about getting something made, which would've been such a pain (it's so nice to have them hanging here ready to go).

Still so many things on the list that need organising. I'm having a bit of an internal panic because I know the next 4 mths are going to fly by.

Next on my list (in no particular order):
Honeymoon
Flowers
Grooms', Jnr Bridesmaids & Page Boys' outfits
Cars
Invitations (need to get moving on this one)
Table layout

Plus I'm sure there's heaps of things that are not coming to mind right now. That internal panic has just turned up a huge notch....

Uber Photography

Jack and I recently went through the process of choosing our photographer for the big day. We ended up meeting with five photographers who all varied in price and packages. I was fairly fussy about what style I wanted so I wittled down the shortlist to this five (no cheesy, posey photos for me ie the jump shot - how many times have we seen that one; or the bride being draped across the front of the groomsmen...). No, I wanted a photographer who was artistic and creative and could also translate the vintage/retro feel into their work. I came across Uber's website (Chris & Kate Buechner, husband and wife team) and thought their work was super. When we went to meet with Kate, we just clicked... she was our sort of lady and the quality of their wedding albums was quickly apparent. BTW, Kate & Chris have both won awards with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP)!!!

So we went away and contemplated all that we had seen - Uber were the people we felt most comfortable with and confident that they will deliver the sort of wedding photos we will cherish for the rest of our lives. That's the thing, you don't get another chance to recapture those moments so we wanted to make sure we would love them. If you have a few moments to spare check out Uber's blog and let me know what you think in the comments below. I love the sneak peak photo of Kristine & Emil's wedding. Kate also does some fabulous portrait shots too.

Vintage Bus Outing

Last Sunday we took the kids on a family outing to the Sydney Bus Museum. It's really close to our house and I drive past it all the time. The museum itself is actually closed to the public until they get compliance for fire hazards etc but they are still operating vintage bus rides every weekend. We went for a trip on a really old double-decker (like the one pictured above). We sat on the top deck in the very first row... the bus took us for a tour to the airport, which was great because the kids got to see planes on the tarmac too and Max loves the DHL sculpture (the balancing blocks). The bus was just as I remembered it as a kid, shaky and rattley, and so much fun. This is a really cheap family outing because there is no set fee, they just ask for a donation to the museum. I wonder if they rent out the buses for private events? :-)

Videographer Despair

A couple of months ago I came across a blog by Justine Ungaro called the The Unbride. It's a great inspirational blog, by the way. Justine, based in the US, recently got married so has her wedding featured on her site. One of the things that really stood out as fantastic was the wedding video highlights. It was created by a team called Monachetti. It was fresh, contemporary, emotional, elegant. I then went on a search to find a Sydney videographer who had a similar style. I have to say, I'm really disappointed with the choice out there. Everyone I have looked at is really, really cheesy. So this is a call out to all budding creative filmmakers in Sydney - make the crossover to the wedding industry and save us from all this crap!! If anyone wants to film our wedding and thinks they've got what it takes then leave your details in the Comments section.

Check out Justine and Gary's video on the Monachetti homepage.

SugarBloom Cupcakes: ART NOUVEAU CUTTING CAKE

Link via SugarBloom Cupcakes

Check out this cutting cake and matching cupcakes by SugarBloom Cupcakes in Perth!

Ever since our 2005 trip to NY and the Magnolia Bakery, Jack and I have been searching out cupcakes that taste just as good. So far nothing in Sydney comes close in taste and texture. I have entertained this crazy idea that I would bake cupcakes for our wedding cake. I have the Magnolia chocolate cupcake recipe but our oven is a bit on the unreliable side with temperature and I've had 4 failed batches so far (don't get me wrong, they taste delicious just look dreadful). What crazy DIY ideas did you have for your wedding? Did you manage to pull it off or was it a complete disaster?

Bella Umbrella Parasols

US company Bella Umbrella stock original vintage umbrellas and parasols. You can buy or hire parasols for weddings, fashion shoots etc. There's a huge range (the largest collection in the world) from plain to patterned, frilled and double-canopies. Founder, Jodell Egbert has even designed her own Signature Collection of 'new-vintage' umbrellas, priced around A$120. What a lovely idea. I wonder if they'll ship to Oz?

My Daily Fix - Campos and Sunbeam

I don't think I could get through each day without a daily fix of coffee. For me heaven is a cup of freshly ground* Campos Superior Blend extracted through our Sunbeam Cafe Latte espresso machine. In fact, I so need my coffee that today I was looking forward to what I thought was my second cup of coffee until I realised the milk jug was exactly where I left it to dry last night.... wait a minute.... it's 3pm and I haven't had a cup of coffee yet?? No wonder I'm feeling so bad (add to that not enough sleep last night). Whats your daily bit of heaven?

* Ground through the Sunbeam Conical Burr Grinder

Her website is set up with lots of photos so you can go through and pick out all the bits you want in your veil and purchase through her online store.
